Speed supports Celebrity Cup at Celtic Manor Resort
Speed spent the weekend supporting charity golf tournament, The Celebrity Cup at Celtic Manor Resort. Hosting top media titles and some of the biggest names in sport and showbiz, the event raised over £45,000 of vital funds for the Marie Keating Foundation. Stars were out in force as they swapped paparazzi for putters to take to the course.
As competition and camaraderie ran rife on the course, the Speed team ran an on-site event press office, delivering content to the national news and picture desks, as well as being on hand to arrange media interviews, direct photography and source material for social media. Here’s our inside scoop for running an on-site event press office:
Encourage and exploit media attendance: Not only does offering media the chance to attend build stronger relationships, it also helps achieve coverage as they hunt out their own stories. Be sure to ask the media attending, who is working on the desk that day so you can sell in directly to a warm contact.
Work with press agency photographers: Benefit from the existing relationship and reputation they have with press and access the wire. Agency photographers also have a vested interest in getting their pictures placed and will therefore help you achieve yet more coverage.
Preparation is key: Being ready to sell in as soon as you have content is essential. Utilise DropBox for streamlined distribution of images. Also, prepare your pitch email in advance so you can send straight out as soon as pictures land.
Wonderful WhatsApp: Instant messaging through WhatsApp is the ideal way to communicate with one another during a fast-paced event. This keeps everyone fully updated throughout the day. WhatsApp is also a streamlined way of sharing content for social media captured by floating team members around the site.
Effective event PR and an efficient on-site press office delivered results including Sky Sports coverage, 10 pieces on the Mail Online, print coverage in the Daily Express and a flurry of national online pieces and blanket regional coverage.
