8 Weeks of Growth and Gratitude: My Journey as a PR Intern at Speed Communications

For the past 8-weeks I have been working at Speed Communications as a PR intern. Throughout this time, I have been given endless opportunities to learn, the space to develop my professional skills and gain a deeper understanding of the PR space.

There are many moments during my internship that I can look back on. Working predominantly within the Business & Corporate team, I assisted with the day-to-day tasks for some of our largest clients. My proudest moment was gaining three pieces of national coverage for one of our B&C clients. An amazing experience and something I could not have achieved without the support of the team.

As I got further into my internship, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work within other teams at Speed. Incredibly I had the opportunity to work with the Butternut Box team, assisting them with their edible bowlboard event in Kennington Park, London. This was a hugely successful event generating coverage and making some dogs and their owners very happy!

By the last few weeks of my internship, I was being given slightly more challenging tasks and responsibilities, something I really enjoyed. I felt as though I was constantly learning new tricks of the PR trade or even entirely new industries that I had little exposure to before. The team trusted me to assist them with more complex briefs, sit in on brainstorms and contribute, and help with the day-to-day running of accounts.

Something I grew fond of and really began to truly appreciate during my time at Speed was the workplace culture. The little things such as birthday celebrations, lunchtime walks, or 10-minutes of meditation all contribute to a positive atmosphere and a happy working space. Having worked within other organisations before, it was refreshing to see such a positive people focused environment that allows everyone to support each other.

As I reach the end of my short eight weeks at Speed, I can honestly say it will be sad to leave. The learning that I will be taking away from this experience is far beyond what I could have ever hoped for before arriving. The entire Speed team gave me countless opportunities to learn and made me feel a big part of the team. Speed is a wonderful company to work with and I am so grateful for the people there giving me the opportunity to learn.
